John was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census in Wythe Co, VA.⁽²⁴³⁾ F appointed. "Ordered that John Hendrick be appointed surveyor of the road from Porter's Ford to the .... branch in the room of Thomas Jackson resigned, and that with the usual hands he keep the same in legal repair."
